The competition in the QWERTY keyboard-equipped smartphone market is heating up today, with Cingular's launch of the Samsung SGH-i607, affectionately known as the Blackjack. The phone is aimed at competing with T-Mobile's Dash and the Motorola Q.
The Samsung Blackjack is one of only a handful of devices compatible with Cingular's new HSDPA network, which will come in handy when sending and receiving email from the device. For push email, the Blackjack is compatible with Microsoft Direct Push, Good Mobile Messaging, as well as Cingular's Xpress Mail. The 12mm (0.46") thin device packs a good feature set for a smartphone, with a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth with A2DP stereo headset support, and microSD memory expansion, all on top of Windows Mobile 5.0 with the Messaging and Security Feature Pack. The Blackjack also provides support for Cingular Music and Cingular Video for on demand access to popular songs and streaming video content.
The Samsung SGH-i607 Blackjack is a Cingular exclusive, and will be available from mid November for US$199.99 with a two-year service agreement and unlimited data plan.
